Chapter 3 Construction of Flexible Pavement

Task 1 : Kahoot

Class begins with a Kahoot! about the topic. The winners are as shown in the photo below.

The questions were related to Flexible Pavements. However, because we haven't been exposed to the topic, marks achieved were quite low.

Task 2 : Padlet

The lecturer gave us a task to conduct a research on Flexible Pavement. Then, we were asked to find a video about the construction process of a Flexible Pavement and present it to the class at the end of the lesson.

Students' reflection

Overall the tasks were very interesting and we were trusted to conduct our own research on the topic and learn more about the construction on flexible pavement from open resources.

Socrative & CIDOS - Chapter 2

Task 1 : Socrative

Pavement Materials Testing

Class began with a revision session of a simple quiz in Socrative. Students were given 5 minutes to complete the quiz about the previous topic. The results were then posted and printed to remind us on what we need to work on more. A copy on the questions can be obtained HERE

Marshall Mix Analysis

Students were instructed to complete a calculation (Marshal Mix Analysis) in groups. Then, the answers must be uploaded in CIDOS as a  condition of participation.

Students' Reflection

Overall, the lecturer (Miss Anne) managed to make the class very interesting and interactive. Students were obligated to practice calculation during the given time frame. At the end of the lesson, students were able to understand and apply the formulas of Marshal Mix Analysis in calculation for Pavement Materials.

Chapter 2: Pavement Materials

TASK 1 : Kahoot!

Students were introduced to Kahoot!, an educational Web2.0 in the form of competitive quiz. Miss Anne gave out questions about Pavement Materials and some general knowledge to test our knowledge about the topic. The winner would receive stars as points for their designated groups.

TASK 2 : Padlet

The second task was to conduct a research about Aggregates and Bitumen. Students were briefed about the 4 materials used in the construction of road pavement before having to search online for more information. The information obtained was posted in a Padlet and was converted into PDF format for the whole class to share. The link to the Padlet can be found HERE. Reflection

Overall, this activity was very interesting because we were given opportunities to research information by ourselves. At the end of the lesson, we were able to identify the materials used in Pavement Construction. The two main materials are Bitumen and aggregate and we were able to understand the properties of each material.

TASK 3 : Kahoot!

At the end of the class, Another Kahoot! session was launched for us to test our knowledge of the previous activity.

It was proven that students were more knowledgeable for the second round of kahoot! this shows the activity was very effective in ensuring students understanding of the topic.
